The two miracles of John 9 We often read in the pages of the New Testament about miracles of healing, sometimes great and sometimes small. In the ninth chapter of John we read about a man blind from birth. As we read in verse 3, the reason the man was blind is " that the works of Yahweh should be made manifest in him". The works of Yahweh that Yahshua is speaking about are two different, separate miracles. Continuing in verses 6 and 7, " When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground , and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, and said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam ( which is by interpretation, Sent ). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing." It's interesting to note that Yahshua performed some of these miracles on the Sabbath, as is mentioned in verse 14. I think he intentionally made clay just to antagonize the Pharisees and to elicit a response . We know that all Yahshua had to do was to speak the word, and the man would have been healed. As we read in verse 7, the man went and washed his eyes and he was able to see for the first time in his life, truly a miracle. His neighbors saw him and could not believe it was him, and finally he admitted who he was . It was the same beggar that they must have seen every day. In verses 10 and 11, we read, "they said therefore to him, How then were your eyes opened ? He answered, the man that is called Yahshua made clay, and anointed my eyes,". There were many people who were now aware that a great miracle had happened, and of course they wanted to know how it happened. As we can see by his answer, he is not sure who Yahshua is and why he has healed him. Also in verse 14, we read for the second time the phrase "opened his eyes". So far, there has only been a physical healing of this man, but he will soon be tested, and the true miracle of this story will be revealed. Instead of celebrating a great miracle, the Pharisees were upset and said that this man could not be from Elohim," because he keeps not the Sabbath ." We all know that Yahshua kept the Sabbath better than any other person that has ever lived, but the Pharisees were so involved in their customs and rituals that they lost sight of the truth. They had become spiritually blind, and wanted to deny that this miracle had actually happened (verse 19). The man's parents knew a miracle had happened, but they were afraid that they would be put out of the synagogue, a fate almost worse than death. The man knew he had been healed by a great man and yet the so-called religious leaders badgered him as to who had healed him. He answered them in verse 30-33 "Why , in this is the marvel, that you know not from where he is, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that Elohim hears not sinners: but if any man is a worshipper of Elohim, and does his will, him he hears. Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from Elohim, he could do nothing". The Pharisees would have nothing more to do with him and they cast him out. Thus we have a perfect example of spiritual blindness. Doctrines and rituals by themselves are of no help for this kind of blindness. Yahshua found the man that was healed and asked him ," Do you believe on the son of Yahweh". The man asked him who is he that I might believe. Yahshua answered him in verse 37 "You have both seen him, and he it is that speak with you ". And the man answered him in the next verse " and he said , Rabb Now we come to the greatest miracle of John 9, the healing of spiritual blindness. The man did not question Yahshua or ask for proof that he was the son of Yahweh, he just believed. His spiritual eyes were opened. And Yahshua continues, " for judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind." The Pharisees had their doctrine and all their rules and they still were blind. They could not see the light of the world. Their self righteousness got in their way. Messiah tells us we must come to him as little children in Matt 18:2-4, " and he called to him a little child, and set him in the middle of them, and said, Truly I say to you, except you turn, and become as little children, you shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greater in the kingdom of heaven." This means that just like a child puts all his trust in his parents, we must do the same. We must trust Messiah complete begotten Son, that whoever believes on him should not perish, but have eternal life. For Yahweh sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him. He that believes on him is not judged: he that believes not has been judged already, because he has not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of Yahweh. And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. For everyone that does evil hates the light, and comes not to the light, lest his works should be reproved. But he that does the truth comes into the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been worked in Yahweh." When you are in the dark you are blind. It is the light of Yahweh that opens our spiritual eyes and allows us to see. The man in John 9 could have made it into the kingdom being physically blind, but he would never stand a chance if he was spiritually blind. Without the light that only comes from Yahweh we are all blind and lost. Its amazing to me, but the more I trust and humble myself and believe in Yahshua, the closer I come to Yahweh, the source of all good things. We have all been in darkness, but as long as we have the light, The true light, we shall not stumble or fall. FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE CALL OR WRITE YAHWEH'S ASSEMBLY IN MESSIAH 401 N.
