Letter to Tyrannus of Ephesus This fictional letter is based on one of my favorite Bible stories. Citation: Acts 19:1-10,23-41. Bill Scarborough cyanosis@bga.com Demetrius the Silversmith Chair, Greater Ephesus Chamber of Commerce President, Ephesian Family Association Tyrannus of Ephesus President, Tyrannus Communications dba Hall of Tyrannus Dear Tyrannus: You have rented your Hall of Tyrannus to a certain heathen called Paul. He has had discussions daily for the past two years. We are concerned that you may be giving approval to this heathen practice regarding some deceased Jew named Jesus. It is said that this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people in Ephesus and practically all the province of Asia Minor. He says that man-made god are no gods at all. There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited, and the goddess herself, who is worshipped throughout the province of Asia Minor and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty. We are concerned about the political agenda of this heathen cult-group. We might have had a different point of view if Tyrannus Communications were having discourses on the cult of Hercules, the philosophies of Plato, and other diversions from the true gods. However, we are concerned that this Jesus cult is trying to force its lifestyle on us proper and responsible pagans. It could give Ephesus the wrong kind of name and attract the wrong kind of people. We ask you to cancel the lease of Paul for the use of the Hall of Tyrannus. Yours in Zeus, Demetrius of Ephesus
