PROTECTOR OF THE POWERLESS B5-12-5A
Lu. 4:18, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal
the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recover-
ing of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised."
INTRODUCTION:
A. Today is Mother's Day--appreciation to them
1. "Fondest memories of mother"
2. Visit or call
B. God likens the love of a mother to His love for His children
C. Although a few mothers may fail in their love for their
children, God never fails!
I. EACH PERSON HAS WORTH IN GOD'S EYES (& He loves them)
A. Some people may think, "I'm not worth loving"
but God sees what you can be--not what you are or have been
B. Jesus' ministry was to the weak--the underdog-the poor (text)
C. God's love is universal and available to all (esp. the weak)
1. Ro. 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
2. Ep. 2:5, "Even when we were dead in sins, [God, for His
great love] hath quickened us together with Christ"
D. God especially loves children
1. Mt. 19:13-15, "Suffer little children...."
2. God is concerned about them even before birth:
a. John Baptist was "filled with the Holy Ghost even
from his mother's womb" (Lu. 1:15)
b. Jere 1:5 (NEB), "Before I formed you in the womb I
knew you for my own; before you were born I
consecrated you"
II. WE TOO HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO THE WEAK
A. To Christian brothers who are weak
1. Ro. 14:1, "Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but
not to doubtful disputations"
2. Ro. 15:1, "We then that are strong ought to bear the
infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves"
B. To sinners who are blinded to sin
1. 1 Co. 9:22, "To the weak became I as weak, that I might
gain the weak"
2. 1 Thes. 5:14, "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them
that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the
weak, be patient toward all men"
C. To those who CANNOT plead their own cause
1. Mt. 25:35-36, "For I was a hungered, and ye gave me meat:
I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger,
and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick,
and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me"
2. Jesus rebuked His disciples for not wanting to help the
"infants" that were brought to Him (Lu. 18:15-17)
III. CHILDREN ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED IN OUR COUNTRY
A. America has the most permissive abortion laws in the world!
B. One in four pregnacies ends in abortion (every 20 secs.)
1. In the twelve years since the Supreme Court legalized
abortion, approximately 13.5 million have died
2. Of the 1.5 million abortions last year in America, many
of the babies were born alive and left to suffer & die
without care!
a. Handicapped newborns are often starved to death
b. Corpses of aborted infants are used for a variety of
research and commercial purpose (cosmetics)
c. A majority of pediatricians will "acquiese in a
parent's decision" to deny a Down's syndrome baby
life-saving treatment.
e. In July of 1983, the lead editorial in Pediatrics,
said, "We can no longer base our ethics on the idea
that human beings are a special form of creation,
made in the image of God, singled out from all other
animals, and alone possessing an immortal soul."
C. God is very much concerned about this senseless killing--
Ps. 139:13-16 (TLB), "You made all the delicate, inner parts
of my body, and knit them together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is
amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous--and
how well I know it. You were there while I was being formed
in utter seclusion! You saw me before I was born and
scheduled each day of my life before I began to breath.
IV. SO, WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?
A. Vote for and pray for godly leaders
B. Write or call your congressman about your concerns
C. Support Crisis Pregnacy Centers such as the one in Covington
D. Encourage any pregnant woman to carry her baby full term
E. Express your Christlike love for those who may have an
unwanted pregnacy
