Song of Solomon 3:1-4

PURPOSE: To warn the lukewarm that Christ is coming soon.

INTRODUCTION:

III. HIS WARNINGS AWAKE HER

A. This is a story of LOVE (cpts. 1-3) A. First, verbal warnings (cpt. 2, vv. 10-13)

1. The eternal love of Christ for His church 1. "Rise up, my love... and come away"

2. The fastidious love of the church for Him 2. Warnings today from the Spirit, the Word,

B. Also a story of the danger of complacency and our own consciences

B. Next, experience to warn

I. HIS BLESSINGS ABOUND
1. She remained in a dreamy state & He left

A. She experienced his: 2. We may find that if we do not remain alert

1. Propitiation--He took her when she was black and attentive, we may find Him gone also

(our salvation) C. When she realized her loss, she sought Him again

2. Protection--He placed her in his own home 1. In the wrong places (bed, city, watchmen)

(we are adopted & protected as family) 2. Because she loved Him she found Him

3. Provision--He fed her the best foods ("held Him and would not let Him go")

(He supplies all our needs) 3. That is the central theme of this message

B. Love--His banner over her was love
SUMMARY:

1. His right hand embraced her A. This story has a happy ending

2. We are never too sinful for Him to love 1. Although the bride let Him go, she found Him

2. Although we may become lukewarm, He will

II. HER CONCEIT ABSORBED HER
take us back and love us still

A. She felt that SHE was beautiful & valuable B. Another (similar) story in chapter 5 was not so

1. "I am the rose of Sharon" happy.

2. "I am... the lily of the valleys" 1. She is again called from her sleep

3. "As a lily among thorns, so is MY LOVE 2. While she hesitates, He is gone forever

among the daughters"

4. Some today are smug with their beauty, etc

B. She began to take Him for granted

1. He was forced behind the wall

2. He was looking in through the lattice
