BEST COMES LAST

Jn. 2:10

PURPOSE: To convince Christians of the value of serving

Christ & sinners of the waste of lives in sin.

INTRODUCTION:

A. Religion--a lamp burning dimly in a sepulchre?

1. If a lamp, it burns BRIGHTLY

2. Not in a sepulchre, either

B. We need Christ in death & in life

C. Some never think of Christ untill face to face

with death or sorrow

D. Why not love Him in times of gladness as well?

1. Jesus at home at marriage as well as funeral

2. If Jesus is present at wedding, no reason to

say as some, "Oh! how many torments lie in

the small circle of a wedding ring."

E. The world gives its best first, and then it is

not lasting, for "earth's pleasures come in

cups, not in fountains," and the supply is

limited and soon exhausted.

F. Not so with Christ rather ,the best comes last...

I. IN CREATION:

A. "The earth was without form and void"

B. The first step to improvement was LIGHT

C. Successive steps of improvement: atmosphere;

seas, land, vegetation; heavenly bodies; animal

life sea & air; animal life on earth

D. Last, MAN, the crowning work of creation

II. IN THE REVELATION OF GOD:

A. Law of demands

B. Guidance of prophets

C. "In the fullness of time"--HIS SON

D. The Holy Ghost IN us

III. IN CHRIST'S LIFE

A. Poor baby born in a stable

B. "Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief"

C. Misunderstood by his own--hated by many

D. The cross--its agony & shame

E. Then the Resurrection & ascension

F. Soon--He will come in His glory!

IV. IN THE CHRISTIAN'S LIFE

A. Bitterness of repentence followed by

sweetness of forgiveness

B. Cross-bearing followed by crown-wearing

C. Disowned by the world--claimed by Christ

D. Pilgrimage followed by inheritance of all things

SUMMARY:

A. Everything in God's hands gets better with time

B. Creation, revelation, Christ's experience, and

the Cristian's life

C. The life of a sinner is different

1. Sin may seem good now but...

you haven't tasted the wine of Jesus!

2. Get older, more guilt ridden

3. Set in ways of sin

4. Finally, judgment & eternal damnation

D. It can be different for the sinner if you will
