THE PRIEST OF THE HOME B6-15-6A

Ep. 6:4 & Heb. 5:1-14 (especially 1-4)

PURPOSE: To instill a sense of Christian responsibility SUMMARY:

in men for the spiritual well-being of their children & A. To the fathers:

teach children to respect their father as priest. 1. Fathers must show compassion

INTRODUCTION: Difficult to find time for fathering 2. Fathers may make mistakes but also teach

B. Jesus was first a Son (v. 8) need that one teach you...

C. Fathers can exercise compassion & offer help & are become such as have need of milk,

and not of strong meat."

II. FATHERS ARE NOT PERFECT B. To the children:

A. Were not perfect children & should not expect 1. "Obey your parents in the Lord: for this

children to be perfect is right." (Ep. 6:1)

B. Not perfect citizens of earth or heaven 2. Give special respect to your father as the

1. Make mistakes (not positive) PRIEST OF YOUR FAMILY!

2. Can teach positive steps to repentance C. Fathers and children come and pray

3. No false impressions of unachievable piety

C. We CAN know difference between good & evil (v.14)

III. FATHERS CAN REMOVE GUILT FROM FAMILY MEMBERS

A. We are responsible for sins of our children

(Eli guilty of not correcting his ADULT sons)

1. 1 Sam 2:22, "Eli heard all that his sons did"

2. Verse 29, "ye kick at my sacrifice... and

honourest thy sons above me"

B. Purpose of being a priest

1. Teach the ways & will of God

2. Offer sacrifices & offerings (Job)

C. It may be costly to us

1. Jesus suffered pain & death to be our priest

2. Also "offered up prayers and supplications

with strong crying and tears unto [God]"

D. Whatever we do is only effective if we FEAR

(v.7, He was "heard in that he feared")
