132. Themistius (Orat. xvi. p. 211, 212) composes an
elaborate and rational apology, which is not, however,
exempt from the puerilities of Greek rhetoric. Orpheus could
only charm the wild beasts of Thrace; but Theodosius
enchanted the men and women whose predecessors in the same
country had torn Orpheus in pieces, etc.
